Ocean Pollution

Have you ever wondered what's going on under the surface of the ocean? If you have, then you know it’s not a pretty sight. Humans should stop polluting the ocean with plastics, oil and chemical spills to stop marine life from dying and to stop contaminating our oxygen.
Do you know how much marine life dies each year from ocean pollution? “100 million marine animals die each year from plastic waste alone.” ( Ferries) Millions of marine animals are dying each year at an alarming rate. The population is going down more year by year and at some point some species might go extinct. Furthermore, according to Clean Water “Marine plastic pollution has impacted at least 267 species …show more content…

In terms of plastic, 8.3 million tons are discarded in the sea yearly. Of which, 236,000 are ingestible micro plastics that marine creatures mistake for food. If you find yourself at home or at a restaurant eating fish they’re might be plastics in the meal because of all the plastic pollution in the ocean that the fish might have eaten. “At least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year” (Ferries) This makes it almost inevitable for an animal to run into a piece of trash or plastic that could harm them which then could help us. The plastics that we throw into the ocean harms marine life therefore harming human …show more content…

The pollution we put in our oceans produces an excess amount of CO2 which aids plants and trees on the land we live on. There’s already an excess amount of CO2 in our atmosphere from greenhouse gasses , deforestation, pollution from cars and burning fossil fuels. “The concentration of carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere is currently at nearly 412 parts per million (ppm) and rising.” (Buis Nasa) This number is a 47% increase from the industrial age and it’s constantly warming our planet. Even though pollution does emit CO2 which benefits our vegetation, there is already too much in the atmosphere from greenhouse gasses , deforestation, pollution from cars and burning fossil fuels.
Furthermore, oil spills and chemicals in our oceans are intoxicating the air we breathe in. “Oil spills and chemical wastes threaten the microorganisms in the seas that provide much of the world’s oxygen supply”(Hayward) As a result of these oil and chemical spills our oxygen supply that is produced by microorganisms is getting contaminated because of the spills. The oxygen us humans breathe in every day is getting contaminated from oil and chemical waste in our
