The US is going to use some source of energy and that will always have some negative effects on the environment. The alternative sources for the energy we need have negative effects on the environment as well. “In 2011 U.S. coal-fired power plants emitted nearly two billion metric tons of greenhouse gases -- roughly eight times the amount produced by mining, refining and burning tar sands”(Biello). Canada is going to develop a pipeline system to export oil whether it’s to the US or other countries, like China, that are trying to get access to this resource.
Canadian company TransCanada hopes to build Keystone XL a pipeline that carries Canadian tar sand oil from Canadian border to the Golf Coast. According to Derber “the pipeline extracts some of the dirtiest oil on the planet, a process that sends many polluting chemicals into the ground waters and releases methane, the most potent greenhouse gas, into the air, creating one of the greatest climate threat” (p. 115). A leak from a pipeline carrying the tar sand oil could cause environmental damage and pollute our drinking water and agricultural irrigation. The builders of the Keystone XL Pipeline are wilders. According to Derber, “environmental wilding in the natural environment, such as reckless polluting that causes global warming” (p. 11).
To extract and produce the oil from the sands, carbon is released into the air 17% more than that of conventional oil. The increasing carbon emissions in the air can speed up the changing climate, and can lead to severe health risks. Pollution is a result of extracting this alternative oil, but
1 The Deepwater Horizon was a drilling rig, which had been rented by British Petroleum (BP), in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig exploded on April 20th, 2010, pouring nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the sea over a three months’ span. This environmental crisis endangered marine wildlife, as well as workers that were injured during the explosion. Of 126 people, 28 workers in total were hurt, leaving 11 that were fatally injured, while the other 17 were severely injured (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013).
Did you know that the U.S has the oldest constitution in the world? A constitution is a framework for a government and our government has many different parties of government. Some of them include the Republican and the Democrats. However, James Madison, who is the “father of the government,” stated that our government is a “Republican-Democratic” government. Why do we need a republican-democratic government?
Congressional candidates needed to raise millions of dollars in order to guarantee their victories in the elections. Yet, the difficulty of this task, the absence of access to wealthy and political links, and limited information about congressional races were the catalysts behind the defeats of promising young leaders who sought to clinch such positions. However, one group has been established in order to combat these deficiencies and provide aspiring public servants to win their respective congressional races. Established by Brian Bordainick and Will Levitt, Square One Politics is set to provide aid towards candidates under the age of 40 who are running for the first time.
The stakes have been incredibly high in this election. As it stands, we are engaged in seven wars abroad, our economy is in a constant state of flux, and so many families are struggling across America. As a result, the need for new leadership has never been greater. At this point, although we have a *presumptive* nominee, we do not yet have an official nominee, and when the last votes were cast in June, neither Secretary Clinton nor Senator Sanders had secured the nomination.
Democrats repeatedly encounter trouble with voicing consensus in a debate that centers more and more on the means of the established foreign policy rather than on its ends. In spite of common support for multilateralism and America’s role as a Global Good Samaritan, Democrats have teetered between the assertions of the “dove” and “hawk” wings of their party since the Vietnam War. As a result, the splintered facets of the Democratic Party have perpetuated the perception that Democratic political leaders are not relevant in the foreign policy arena. Furthermore, Democratic public servants (particularly Democratic Presidents) consistently present notions of America’s global leadership that demonstrates the divide among the party elite and the
The Federalist Papers are some of the most important words that have been written in this history of the United States and were written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison who is responsible for Number 10. Madison focuses Number 10 on factions, their causes, and the result of their existence. Madison beings by stating the capability of the Constitution to control the outcome of factions, such as violence or damage and goes on to state the causes of factions and the solutions to their existence. Madison’s main focus in his paper is factions and their outcomes; a faction is simply a group of people with a common interest, either the “majority or minority of the whole.” Factions originate when people divide themselves over
In politics, all different sorts of polls are set up to someway decide the fate of an election, but in the end it’s always a toss-up. It’s a messy business, and it’s not uncommon for a candidate to say one thing only to go back on it later on. Governor Christy was no exception to this, switching from his stances against Trump to saying that he was “proud to...endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States.” He went on to state that he even believed Trump could beat Clinton and lead the Republicans to taking back Congress. To some, this might seem beneficial, but to a great deal of others, it’s a terrifying jump.
Accordingly, the 2016 elections proved how increasingly irrelevant the Democratic Party finds itself in large swaths of the country. Likewise, more than a third of all House Democrats come from just three states: California, Massachusetts, and New York. This recently exacerbated problem was relayed by Congressman Ryan on an appearance of NBC’s “Meet the Press”. “It’s time to do something about it, not just talk about it,” he continued. “Because now we’re not even the national party.
Since demagoguery splits politics into these two sides it turns the political argument into something else that isn’t solely about policies. Instead of arguing for policies it shifts the argument towards the representative of the group. The in-group will praise their own representative and will sit on the downfall of the out-group.
In Trish Roberts-Miller article “Characteristics of Demagoguery” she describes this term as a strategy to polarize and blame out-groups for the ineffectiveness of solutions to the country 's problems. Demagoguery is fear based, it calls for quick actions and attacks. Demagogues use certain strategies
Despite the theory that Congress is a government “Of the People, By the People, For the People,” the legislative body features only a select few individuals, most of whom reign from upper levels of society. The Constitution prescribes limited barriers to becoming a Congressional representative based on age, citizenship, and residency. Because the Senate is unofficially the upper house of the two coequal houses of Congress, Constitutional restrictions for Senate candidates are higher than those of House candidates. Where House candidates must only be 25 years of age and have been a United States citizen for seven years, Senate candidates must be 30 years old and have been citizens for nine years. Candidates for both houses must reside in the state which they seek to represent.
WHAT IS CONSERVATISM? In the world today, and throughout recent history, conservatism has been an important part of political ideologies. The word, conservatism comes from the Latin alphabet and it means to guard and embowering. But in politics, there is no exact explanation for conservatism.
