The mix of formats for the future IndyCar races should use oval tracks races as this form is centrally more popular among the fans within the United States. Many believe this is what helps define the sport and its popularity. Furthermore, many critics fear that incorporating more road/street courses will weaken the sport and take the IndyCar series away from its roots (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014).
Moreover, IndyCar drivers are having to master the art of racing on a variety of tracks in order to excel in winning the championships. This further takes away from their fully mastering one skill over the other. By further implementing more than one option it further handicaps the sport and the drivers and takes it away from its origin and further increases concerns for safety because they are having to change frequently from one type of track race to the other. Therefore, Nate and USA Today (n.d.), makes it a vital point that it would be unviable to abandon IndyCar oval track roots despite safety concerns because people desire to see speed and want to see broken records. Overall, I would continue to utilize the oval tracks and set in more safety precautions to help with promoting more safety concerns. However, I do not believe I would totally eliminate what drew the sport into being and that fans desire to see. IndyCar racing is centralized and primarily a fast speed sport that is essentially performed on oval tracks and that is one of the main reasons fans continue to come out and support the sport because they know they will see the performance on an oval track that originated in the beginning with the sport.
