In today’s society, not only are blue collar workers becoming more rare, many people are now aiming for the health field because of how seemingly stable the career is and its prospects. Within the past year, three whole pharmacy schools have open in California alone, which begs the question of what exactly is occurring in the economy right now. While there is a large supply of workers looking to find jobs, the demand is slowly but surely decreasing because many students are being pushed to aim for a “money-making” career as opposed to lower division ones. However, this would only lead to our downfall because just like how darkness is needed to complement light, we need people working as mechanics and plumbers to complement the ones working as lawyers and dentists. For there to be the existence of “good,” the “evil” must exist somewhere for the good to be promulgated.
Thank you for taking the time to review my personal statement on why I have chosen to embark on the journey to become a Physician Assistant. My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. While in high school, I became friends with several other students who were actively volunteering with a local fire department. After hearing their stories about the things they were learning and doing I also joined a volunteer fire department, mostly out of curiosity. Over the course of a couple of years I discovered that the challenges that I encountered during training and responding to emergencies had unlocked some unrealized, more like unknown, drive inside
The Food and Drug Administration is the oldest “consumer protection agency in the federal government”. The purpose of the FDA is to protect consumers by assuring that all food supplies, medical devices, cosmetics, human and veterinary drugs, and products that emit radiation are safe and secure for our use. Although the official label for the FDA was not created until the 1930’s it’s beginnings can date all the way back to the year of 1848. It all started with a man named Lewis Beck.
After researching and thoroughly exploring the profession of physician assistant, I would still seriously consider becoming one. Even though there is little room for advancement beyond straying onto another career path, it seems like a very secure, appropriately salaried, interesting, and rewarding position in the medical field. The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.
“I’m an ex-convict. I have AIDS. I’m a prostitute. I’m poor. I’m old.

My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
I thought I knew what career path I wanted for my future, with that in mind, I sought a degree in Fitness and Human Performance to continue with a career in Occupational Therapy. In this career choice, the way I got to help patients was through therapy. While taking classes, I realized Occupational Therapy is not what I truly was passionate about. I decided to take my mother’s advice and choose what I truly love to do, which is to help people all around and I believe the nursing program would be the best fit. I am currently completing my certified nurse program to proceed with a job as a patient care technician.
Nursing At 21 and with only one year of medical assisting experience. I figure it was an okay job. After all, I was getting paid more than minimum wage. Initially going into a trade school for fast pace and expensive learning that is what I wanted more money in little time requirement.
I have always thought about working in the medical field, but where was the question. I started looking at the field of nursing. My mom works as a nurse so it was obvious that I start there. From my research I found out all of the great things about being a nurse. This research answered my question.

I have been growing up seeing my dad as a doctor, and he really loves his job, so automatically I got it from him. Many people pick this major to make money, but my dad always says, “This job is not for making money as much to help people and save their lives”. He taught me that people don’t have to pay to check their health, if they are not able to pay it is not a problem, you do your job as you should do and he always say if you care about money in this career, you won’t be successful at it. That is how I initially begun picking this major.
