“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.” Franklin D. Roosevelt once said these wise words to make awareness about protecting the environment. There are many ways we can help improve the environment, and solar energy is an incredibly useful resource. Today eighty percent of the energy comes from fossil fuels, and about one percent comes from solar panels. Unfortunately, fossil fuel is the primary cause of pollution. Pollution caused by fossil fuel, causes acid rain and global warming. Global warming affects humans and animals as well with the climate changes due to the burning of fossil fuels. In contrast to fossil fuels, solar energy is …show more content…

According to Santa Ana they spent approximately $1.8 million. If the campus puts solar panels they can save about 1 million. The money that they save can be used to improve the school. LA Community College District in 2008 began a program where they were going to change their source of energy to a solar energy. “The first phase of ASC’s green –energy program will allow the college to save the District $280,000 per year and meet all of the school’s electric needs by generating more than 5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity” (New Mega-Solar Project at inner-City College). Just like the college district of Los Angeles they are going to save up all that money by changing to a solar program Santa Ana College can also save up that money by going green. Another example of a school that has solar panels in their campus is Georgia High School in Dublin Georgia. Georgia High School installed about five thousand solar panels around the school campus the official in say that this will help reduce the utility cost to about 40 percent. Many schools are seeing that having solar panels reduce the cost of electrical bill which helps hem save money to improve their campus. Dublin City Schools’ superintendent Chuck Ledbetter said, “The ability to not only reduce operating costs with solar power but also essentially stabilize our energy costs for the next 25 years is a huge benefit to our school system” (qtd. in Solar Panels for Georgia H.S.). Not only having solar panels will reduce the electrical bill, but solar energy can be stored. This makes sure that the school will have sufficient energy to run the school. Also, since the solar energy can be stored, it won’t affect it when the weather is cloudy and not sunny. This is a big benefit of having solar panels they will last longer, they are cheaper, and they
