Eric Schmidt once said,“The self driving car is not self-aware. It's just driving; it's not thinking.” People believe that self driving cars are unsafe and too costly, while others believe that self driving cars will improve the way of transportation and work. Self driving cars are far from being helpful; the cars will cost way too much, jobs will disappear, and people’s lives will be put on the line. Car companies and other people believe that the cost of purchasing a self driving car is worth it. First of all, in order for the car to work it needs sensors, a computer system, software, GPS, etc. The problem with that is they “Can cost more than $100,000 just for the computer, software, and sensors.” (“Top 20”). First of all, this is not even close to the truth. Self driving cars are very easy to hack. Electronics systems in cars currently have no or very limited security measures. “Staff working for United States senator Ed Markey, found that almost 100 percent of vehicles were vulnerable to being hacked,” (Self-driving car cost). In addition, the sensors in the cars can not survive harsh weather conditions. “They are not built for all weather types which can cause serious damage to sensors,” (“Top 20”). In fact, heavy rain can interfere with the sensors, causing damage and will risk the safety of the passengers. Lastly, self driving cars will not stop road rage. Road rage is caused by human errors. “Driving errors that cause road rage will not be eliminated by driverless cars,” (“Driverless Cars).
