During the 1930s and ‘40s, one of the world’s most depressing time soccured. This was known as the Holocaust. Over the course of the Holocaust, 11 million people died. It was during WWII where the participants were Nazi Germany vs. The Allies. The Nazis targeted the Jewish race and religion because they were “inferior” and imprisoned and murdered them; as a result, six million Jews were killed and countless lives were affected.

Rights such as “to frequent restaurants or cafés, to travel by rail, to attend synagogue, to be on the streets after six o’clock in the evening.” (Wiesel 11) was taken away from the Jews. After that, Jews were put into ghettos. Ghettos are surrounded by a barbed wire fence, so no one can get in or out. People inside have to rely on food and other supplies being brought to the ghetto.

These ghettos were the worst part of the cities that the Nazis took over which they converted into living areas for captured Jews. “They used these places to “store” Jews they didn 't have room for at the concentration camps yet” (Bachrach 38). The Nazis had one very big ghetto in Warsaw, Poland called, simply, the Warsaw Ghetto (Bachrach 39). Warsaw was the biggest ghetto that the Nazis had but the Jews used that to their advantage.
