How much do people think about others? How about the people who helped them? There is no other group of individuals that strives to help others than veterans, but their problems are seldom minded. Every single day, the needs of U.S. veterans are continuously neglected, with no one attempting to support them through their burdens.
Veteran suicide has become a dire issue when it comes to their mental health. Suicide in general has been problematic for decades, but veteran suicide are even more atrocious. Veterans’ mental healths are leading to them living without a home. This issue is so far that, “…veterans are slightly overrepresented in the US homeless population with veterans constituting 12.3% of all homeless adults in the United States but only 9.7% of the total US population” (Tsai and Rosenheck). Perhaps if homeless veterans were given mental aid, they could improve their lives, but as it is, veterans are going to stay on the streets, forever abandoned. Homelessness doesn't just leave veterans on the streets, “...[Homelessness] is associated with a host of other negative outcomes, including a wide range of serious medical problems, mental health and substance abuse problems, premature mortality, frequent hospitalizations, greater than average costs per hospital stay, and incarceration” (Tsai and Rosenheck). This shows that when veterans become homeless, they get exposed to an abundance of problems, leaving them deeper in debt and danger.
