In the article “I do not want to vote for the Metropolitan Council”, Nick Magrino presents a compelling argument against the voting of the council members. Central to Magrino’s statement is the subject of responsibility, a foundation of law based on administration. He evaluates the need for responsibility inside the Metropolitan Committee, emphasizing its unelected nature, as board individuals are named instead of chosen by the people. This lack of responsibility is underscored by the council’s critical territorial duties, extending from overseeing transit to wastewater treatment. Magrino skepticism amplifies past the board itself, addressing the broader viability of neighborhood administration structures.
“Many good people serve in Congress. They are patriotic, hard-working and devoted to the public good as they see it, but the institutional and cultural impediments to change frustrate the intentions of these well-meaning
A senator’s first two responsibilities are to attend meetings and to address the concerns of their constituents (Leviticus, 2017). The importance of meeting attendance is its the only way to revise bills
The mayor is selected from the council on a rotating basis, whereas in mayor-council forms, he or she is appointed separately. The National League of Cities goes on to clarify that city councils are “the legislators of a municipality who are democratically elected to decide which services will be provided and how to pay for them, among many other tasks,” and while election stipulations and council size may vary, all city councils throughout the country are tasked with much
There are three activities legislators take part in to help accomplish reelection. These activities are advertising, credit claiming, and position taking (Mayhew,
Candidates for Public Office and the Procedures for Selection: In Athens, the sortition system was used to choose those in public office. Equal possibilities for participation are ensured by the ability to select any eligible citizen for a post. Courts may investigate magistrates and other public servants, and their terms were finite. By encouraging citizen engagement, this strategy intended to prevent the concentration of power.
Days before Election Day we can’t know who will win the presidency. But we can know with near certainty that voter turnout will be abysmal and that the results will be not so much a mandate as a skewed sampling of about half the electorate. Many reforms could increase turnout, from same-day registration to voting on weekends. But the most basic is also the most appropriate: making voting mandatory. Here’s why.
It is personally responsible citizens who,"honor the democratic principles”(Document A, sentence 4). That is why
Some of the aspects they have to consider is if there is an incumbent in office, what their district’s political stances are compared with their own, or how are they going to raise money to successfully run a campaign. On the opposite side of winning, candidates also need to think of how likely their challengers are to winning
Being a person of politics yourself, you of all people should know that many compromises have been made over the course of the establishment of the United States. However, some of the compromises, like the electoral college, were made because of factors in the past and are now not needed in today’s modern democracy. While the electoral college once worked as a compromise in the past, it is an archaic system that unfairly represents the votes of citizens all across the nation. A popular vote should instead be utilized to fairly choose the people of power in this country and would better represent voters’ opinions. In implementing the electoral college, most states’ votes either go to one candidate or the other, leading to candidates to only campaign in swing states (Bradford Plumer 13).
They decided to establish a leader by voting. This example
Good day. I am currently contacting you on the familiar issue of the unjust Electoral College. For instance, in 2000, the presidential election resulted in the presidency of George W. Bush; however, for the popular vote Al Gore had won. Al Gore lost the electoral votes 266 to Bush's 271 votes. The Electoral college is unreliable, contradicts the idea of democracy, and the idea is unfair to the citizens of the United States of America.
Gentrification is the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle-class taste. Real Estate investors usually take low-income places that they feel have a chance to prosper economically, and turn them into areas that attract the middle and upper class workers. In doing so they feel like the low-income areas will be safer and more appealing, attracting more people to visit and live there. An improvement to a poor district sounds beautiful, but is gentrification as great as it’s sought out to be? Many residents have their doubts about gentrification due to the idea that the costs of their living will go up and they will be driven out of their neighborhoods.
I think that I would like to be on a jury and experience what is required of a juror, I think everyone should be a member of the jury at least once in their lifetime. Having to experience the juries’ duties on a civil or criminal case, in some instance would be hard. Especially in a murder case involving children or battered women. When the judge gives you direction to please disregard that statement. How can you disregard information that you have heard?
Political parties serve countless roles in America’s government. Foremost, it needs to be said they are crucial to America’s political system. The political parties are the heart and brain of our government's body, urging people to conceive and feel different ways on different topics whether the controversy is over how money is distributed or the way immigrants should be treated or dealt with. With each party having a biased view it shows how a group can be increasingly powerful with bountiful amounts of support, names and divisions can be heard. Democrats are widely known to be liberal rather than conservative.
