INTRODUCTION For this project, I choose the president of Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC). Dr. Jerry King has been employed by TVCC since 1975. Dr. King started off as an adjunct instructor and worked his way up the ranks to instructor, professor, division chair and then to vice president of instruction before becoming president. During his tenure he has also performed other jobs, such as Mayor of Athens, Texas and at one time had aspirations to pursue politics and ran for a seat in the US Senate.
In the five years as principal, her school met exceptional growth in the areas of reading and math. When asked how the school had progressed with her as principal, she said, “I created professional learning communities to focus on student learning and differentiated instruction.” After much success as a principal at Sunland Park, she was offered a principal position at Anthony Elementary. Anthony Elementary had not met AYP standards for three consecutive years. When Ms.Perez got to Anthony Elementary, the teachers had many excuses as to why Anthony Elementary was not meeting the AYP standards.
Mayor Emanuel plans on closing these schools to save the budget of CPS and to save the graduation rates. The Mayor is pushing CPS Grads to create some sort of ‘plan’ to give CPS students to better educate themselves on which degree they are heading for. Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated,”"If you change expectations, it's not hard for kids to adapt". Mayor Emanuel believes planting a seed in these young educators heads of long term goals, and having Graduates with degrees assisting them in new CPS programs, is the right way of making these students trust the new process of rebuilding these Chicago Public Schools and the CPS graduation rate.
Michael has over twenty years of experience in education as a superintendent, principal, teacher, and coach. He works hard to provide the best for his students, his staff, and the community while maintaining professionalism in every aspect of his life. Michael is not afraid to make tough decisions and to take a stand to implement those decisions. He is not an administrator who closes his office door. He feels a responsibility to be a part of the daily life of every building in his district.
If you had been a reformer during this era (remember planning as a profession did not yet exist), what type of progressive era urban reform would you adopt and implement? Why? Would it engage with the good government movement or not? Why? What lessons, if any, would your response then provide for your planning practice today?
I have worked to expand my leadership skills at the district level in budgeting, leadership, project management and application of Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives, aligning frameworks, connecting with Middle School programs, Advisory Committees and Technology Initiatives. These findings imply that committed teachers and leadership as well as the right reform model can drastically reduce or eliminate problems associated with urban schooling. This means that urban school reform is dependent on selecting the right reform model, the commitment of the teachers and engaging

In the United States our government is broken up into many different parts. The biggest is of course the national government. The national government is comprised of the Executive branch, Legislative branch, and Judicial branch. These three compartments of government work together to approve the laws, make the laws, and enforce the law. After that power is trickled down to the state and local government.
Urban Education Pedagogy In 1994, Gloria Ladson-Billings created the term “culturally relevant teaching”, which refers to pedagogy that empowers students intellectually, socially and emotionally (Coffey, 2008). Ladson-Billings created this term based on research and observations of teachers who are successful with low performing students and students of color. Culturally relevant teaching involves using culture as a tool to provide students’ with knowledge and skills. In general, it is a theory that allows teachers to build connections between students’ home and school lives and activate their prior knowledge (Coffey, 2008).
Starting in the 1990’s, contemporary reformers began to focus on cities who opted for mayoral control of education throughout their districts. Prior to these events, mayoral control of public schools were focused primarily by incorporating separate school districts into municipal government. Before Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City was elected in 2001, public schools were run by a mass amount of state government leaders and were exposed to experiments of decentralized community control. These experiments went horribly wrong which resulted into
I believe that every child deserves the right to a good education. We need to put our children first, value our teachers, and ensure that every child in the Metro area has the opportunity to go a strong school, regardless of their neighborhood. Education will boost the workforce, reduce crime, and improve healthy outcomes and quality of life in Nashville. We need to create incentives to attract and keep the best educators. As your mayor, I will be an adamant ambassador for our schools, helping to recruit the best and brightest educators to Nashville and making the city a place that our best current teachers want to stay and live in.

Act 1 of Hamlet, written by Shakespeare, begins with two sentienals discussing how the dead king of Denmark has appeared to them in the past two nights as a ghost, dissappearing quickly each time. Tonight, they have brought along Horatio, a wise scholar, to witness the ghost. The ghost appears, then quickly dissappears. The conversation shifts to political matters.
