If it wasn’t already enough sending soldiers out into the battle field. School should be one of the safest places in which one’s son/daughter can get an education, make long lasting memories and graduating starting the next chapter of their lives. No parent should be worried sending their son/daughter, however it has become a concern. “On April 20, 1999, two teens went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide” (History). Many families lost their children. I can’t imagine losing my son or daughter to something tragic as this.
From High School, Nightclub, to Elementary schools being targeted by assault weapons is not a wake up call for the gun industries to ban the usage and sales of guns, then what is? Another tragedy would have to be a church that was unexpectedly targeted by a man who came in and took innocent lives due to his different beliefs. According to the Washington Post, “Roof killed not one person, but nine, and “he killed them because of the color of their skin” (Zapotosky). This man already knew what he wanted to do, he took innocent lives due to their differences. If racism isn’t enough already, the usage of an assault weapon in a church should definitely be a wake up call.
Therefore, assault weapons should be banned and not allowed to be purchased unless background checks have been made. It is crucial to know that many lives have been taken due to gun violence. The more we say yes to guns being allowed the more yes, we are saying for people’s lives to be taken away.
