Jeffrey Goldberg’s Article “The Case for More Guns (and More Gun Control)” he states that multiple examples of shooting where gun control could have been a major factor in preventing these shootings. Goldberg states here that when Tom Mauser became gun-control activists after his son was killed it showed a lot of that emotion that ethos is talking about with the tragedy. There was lot of more push towards more-strict controls on guns that helped shift the cultures keeping. It showed that fact of how it easy it was to get guns for two kids that were not legal in age. Since that event background checks and among other restrictions have been employed.
On October 1st, on a Sunday, at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, through a hotel window 500-600 people were injured and 58 people lost their lives. My paper will be about the heros in the shooting and who they were and what they did to become heros. My paper is also about what makes a hero, and who has been a hero in my life. Some of the heros in the Las Vegas shooting went by the names of Mark Jay, a brother and a hockey coach, Krystal Goddard and Amy MccAslin. I will tell you these heroic stories each in different paragraphs.
Violence. a behavior intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. But, violence also involves physical force. The most serious crimes are felonies, which includes murder, robbery, burglary, and kidnapping, to name a few. I will be talking a about a shooting.
This resulted in an increase by 183% of shootings and by 239% of deaths by guns. Obviously, this is a problem, that both puts people’s lives at risk and makes some live in fear. First, the number of shootings is completely intolerable. Many innocent people die due to gun shootings.
Mass Shooting Most people argue that everyone should have a right to bear firearms. However, unlimited access to guns endangers the safety of the society. Guns can fall in the hands of bloodthirsty offenders or of mentally unstable people. Therefore, firearms should be controlled and must be allowed based on certain qualifications. Most mass shooters have no solid reason or any emotional ties with their victims, but they all have access to firearms.
The government put effort on controlling gun violence but that not enough. Mass shooting has triple since 2011, making drive by shooting more frequent with copycat shooter.
But what should be done about assault weapons? There should be no reason for homeowners and everyday citizens to own such things as an AR-15 or a Machine Gun. Assault weapons should not be permitted in the US. The majority of assault weapons that are used for these shootings are acquired legally by shooters. In some of the most recent major attacks, “killers in Las Vegas and Orlando attacks… walk into gun shops and legally purchase assault weapons” (Ingraham).
Since 1966, there have been 150 mass shootings in the United States. Over 1,000 people have been killed, and over 150 of those people were children or teenagers. These statistics are brought up in a heartbreaking article by The Washington Post, titled “The Terrible Numbers that Grow with Each Mass Shooting,” written by By Bonnie Berkowitz, Denise Lu and Chris Alcantara. After the most recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, debates on gun control have once again sparked up. This has happened far too many times for change not to occur.
According to Pierre Lemieux, Canadian economic theorist and politician, there are two constraints the limit the number of mass shootings in the United States, the perpetrators econom-ic standing and morals. He found that many perpetrators were not wealthy enough to purchase several firearms. However nowadays, guns are easily accessible, given one can purchase them online, from private sellers, from retail stores and illegally. Las Vegas shooter, Stephen padlock was a wealthy man with a stable income, three days prior to the massacre Paddock had accumu-lated 33 firearms in his hotel room, each costing between $5,000 and $10,000 each (Follman, Aronsen, & Pan,
Mass shooting are made possible because it is far too easy to get access to a gun. With stricter gun control laws mass shootings/shooting deaths are preventable, or at the very least can be brought down to a minimum. More children are being killed by guns than police officers. There should be stricter gun control laws, laws that prevent mass shooting like the one in Vegas, and laws that prevent shooting deaths in general.
Majority of these shooters have been anti social loners who suffer from some type of mental illness. Some of the examples of these shooters are James Holmes, Adam Lanza, and Senung Hui Cho. All three of these shooters showed signs of mental illness and were seen by mental health experts before their shootings. Mass shootings are particularly difficult to stop before it happens because due to a lot of red tape, like doctor patient confidentiality and lack of background checks for mental health issues, weapons are easy to buy. Due to politics this issue cannot be solved because many politicians do not agree on a solution.
“We have found that when large capacity magazines [and assault weapons] are regulated, you get drastic drops in both the incidence of gun massacres and the fatality rate of gun massacres.” (Klarevas, 2018) It is unrealistic to imagine all gun access to be nonexistent, the cease of access to any type of gun causes chaos in its own sense, and illegal weapons would be purchased, which would ensure even worse repercussions. A gun ban is not realistic, however gun control is. Critics argue limiting deadly assault weapons does not solve the nation’s gun issue.
Gun Control and Mass Shootings in America Gun violence is an unquestionable issue in America, with the United States ranking as one of the worst with both homicides and suicides using guns. That being said, we outnumber Mexico in gun related deaths and among first-world countries we rank far above others in the number of gun deaths, such as England and Australia. Consequently, we live in one of the only first world countries that does not have extensive gun laws and restrictions to gun access. Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
This included terrorist attacks, school shootings or just simple hatred murders. With guns, it seems that killing people becomes a lot easier to carry out. The recent Las Vegas Strip Shooting is the best example manifests this lack of gun control problem in U.S. On the night of October 1, 2017, the sound of the shooting appeared in a music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. The deadly sound came from a semi-auto machine gun which was operated by 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from the top of the Mandalay Bay hotel.
