Education is at the forefront of most new parent’s minds, which is why there is so much pressure on choosing a good preschool. Parents want to make sure that they give their children the best possible start to education, in order to create a solid foundation for success late in life. However, in society today, expectations placed on preschoolers are becoming more demanding, a trend that could have many negative consequences on the development of children. This idea is discussed in the article The New Preschool is Crushing Kids written by Erika Christakis. Christakis interconnects the audience, speaker, and subject as well as uses appeals to logic, emotion, and credibility to craft a strong and effective argument about how preschool has started to place too many expectations on preschoolers.
The writer supports the efforts of Peabody to establish a kindergarten for early childhood education. Without the motivation and drive to reform the current practices of American education, there is no telling how that would have affected today’s current kindergarten education. REFERENCE
Traditional school versus Year round school The idea of year round school is starting to be more the topic of discussion. Many people are for the idea of year round education and many are against it. “If our country began on a year around schedule, it would have seemed bizarre to propose the summer- off schedule as a superior way to educate students” says Principle Hazel Colebank. Although some may feel year round school is great for bettering education, changing what’s considered normal could cause more harm than good.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine asserts that early school days lead to accidents along the roads, depression among the young teenagers, and upsurge in poor performance academically for middle and high school students. Teens struggle through the challenge of waking up very early in the morning so that they can be at school at the right time. Research implies that teens should get at least eight to nine hours of night sleep for their good health. Various sponsors such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control have the strong advice on why schools should start later. Nevertheless, by being able to sleep more before school starts, students will be able to become well rested, more attentive in classroom settings, and perform better as learners.
Whether year-round schooling should be enforced in Florida schools has been a recent debate. Florida schools should not take part in year-round schooling schedules because it makes sports and jobs very hard to get too, also year-round schooling gives teachers insufficient time to prepare for the next school year. Even though year-round school gives students more breaks, there is no proof that it helps students academically. So traditional school is better and should stay in Florida.
There are a couple of ways that Head Start is at odds with social work values. The first, coming from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service website (2017), “Head Start grants are awarded directly to public or private non-profit organizations, including community-based and faith-based organizations, or for-profit agencies within a community that wish to compete for funds” (acdf.hhs.gov, para. 1). In order to open one’s own Head Start program, one needs to have a non-profit agency… “including faith-based organizations, or for-profit agencies within a community that wish to compete for funds” (acdf.hhs.gov, 2017, para. 1). It seems problematic that a federally funded initiative would seek to align itself with any one religion.
Playing with blocks, coloring, naps, and sidewalk chalk. All fond memories of life in pre-k. For most, preschool is a time of fun and games and making your first friends. There is a lot of evidence showing children should be sent to preschool but many aren 't getting the opportunity. Thankfully, there are many options. “Kids should be going to pre-k because it helps kids prepare for the social, academic, and emotional demands of Kindergarten.
A daycare with high quality provides plenty of benefits for children. Daycare teaches children to learn, share, take turns, and prepare each child for onset task for school. Daycare helps children to ease separation anxiety, and get used to being around other people. To find an excellent high-quality daycare you will have to start with the basics. For instance trained caregivers, who are committed to the center; along with a clean play area.
Abstract As early childhood educators, we the teachers have differing philosophies and approaches to education of our own. There are many different types of early childhood programs. Within this theoretical discussion I will address how current principles of early years’ pedagogy have been affected by the work of pioneers of early years’ education. Modern day Early Years Education has been hugely influenced and built upon the ideas and theories of historic and current pioneers and legislation. The statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage is a legal document that sets out the standards required for the development, care and learning of children aged birth to 5 years. The EYFS must be followed by all schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers. Within the EYFS it is stated that “Every Child deserves the best possible start in life and support that enables them to fulfil their potential” and therefore
Preschool education is an extremely important start to a young child’s overall success in their early educational years and later life. Parents should supply their children with the best possible resources for them to grow up strong and successful. Children get a chance to enhance their knowledge, physical skills, and social/emotional skills in a pre-K environment. These are skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
The important reason to makes a good and professional early childhood educator is to communicate with children and try to understand them. I did not have any working experience in kindergarten, but I have some experience of taking care of a child due to my mother is a babysitter. The child that my mother takes care is a boy and he’s autism. He is a child that sometimes like lives in his own world and sometimes he is also hyperactive. He likes to sing, dance and write.
The first day of school can be exciting at any age. However, for many toddlers this can bring feelings of apprehension and fear. This is often the first time that some children will be without their parents or someone they are familiar with for hours at a time. The unfamiliarity will often make it difficult for your child to feel comfortable going away to school. Preschool is an essential building block in your child’s development.
M. (2011). It should also be noted that many, Head Start preschool teachers are math anxious and their level of math anxiety prevents them from teaching mathematics to preschool aged children, including reasoning and cognitive thinking skills, as much as they should. It is critical for children to develop these reasoning and cognitive skills in order to be successful in future learning. In it’s current state of U. S. childcare centers, “the quality of emotional support in preschool classrooms appears relatively strong when compared to the quality of instructional support” Hirokazu, Y. (2016). Although emotional support is a very important factor in child development it certainly isn’t a basis to build a case for sending children to preschool away from their families and emotional centers.
Albert Einstein once said, "Everybody is a genius... But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". Unfortunately, most school systems depict this quote. They judge a significant amount of the population by their ability to answer a few questions. They rate them with letters and numbers, and force students to be represented by these letters and numbers for the rest of their lives.
