Imagine bright glinting orange flames engulfing the bright, lush green trees of a forest. Smell the bitter burning wood. See the ashes fly through the air. Feel the smoke burning your throat, and eyes. This is what we have experienced down in eagle creek for the past Month. One youths inappropriate use of fireworks has led to so much destruction; caused so much damage, and changed so many lives. How should we punish this boy? Well, I after careful review of the evidence, propose he, both serve time in juvenile prison and does extensive community service. September 2, 2017 started off as any other day, but it turned out to be the start of something tragic. A 15 year-old boy tossed a smoke bomb into eagle creek's beloved forest, which sparked the beginning of a long and devastating fire. He is 15 and chances are he most likely doesn’t have a stable income. Therefore, it would be highly unlikely for him to be able to actually pay the fine it. So who would actually pay it? Most likely the responsibility of paying off the fine would fall on to the parents. Also, considering the amount of damage done even they wouldn’t be able to afford the cost of this fine. Did they start the fire? Why punish them for the mistakes of their child? What would this accomplish in teaching the boy? Nothing! He won’t learn anything by sitting at home having his parents pick up for his mess. He needs to get down there see all the damage, and help fix it.
