They Did It ! Recently a decision was made that will change America forever. On August 18th Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment, therefore granting women the right to vote in all states. This decision with certainly be met with both support and opposition from many.
Historically, periods in which tax rates were higher produced inadequate and stagnant economic growth. Politicians and lobbyists propose that taxing the upper classes will lessen the burden on the middle and lower classes, which stimulates the economy. This is not only false, but basic critical thinking reveals that when the “rich” have more money in their pockets, they are more likely to invest or raise wages if they employ individuals. One common misconception of tax rates is that high tax rates generate more tax revenue, and lower tax rates generate less tax revenue. On paper, this would make sense.
The death sentence, a controversial topic that was brought to our attention in this year's election in California through the means of prop 66 and prop 62. Prop 66 was to keep the death penalty, but to revise some of its aspects. While prop 62 was against the death penalty. This issue of sentencing a person for a heinous crime to death is such a critical topic because of the fact of whether to save the lives of criminals or take them away. I do not believe that the father of Hester Prynne’s child should be put to death with the crime that he has committed because the crime that he committed is not a crime that should be punishable by death.
The U.S. Constitution is a Living Document Since society has changed dramatically between the eighteenth and twenty first century, the U.S Constitution should be considered as a living document because it is not applicable in today's society and therefore in need of some changes in order to fit into today’s society. When our founding fathers wrote the constitution they did not have in mind all the technological advancements the U.S. will one day have. Such as the internet, television, radio, and so on. Other’s will say that if the constitution was considered a living document then judges will take advantage and manipulate the constitution to their benefit, but they don’t realize that people already manipulate the constitution. There were laws that contradicted the constitution like the Judiciary Act of 1789, which contradicts Article III of the Constitution in the Marbury v. Madison case.
Did you know that Canada just quit making their penny? (Source 1) They aren't the first of many countries to have made this decision. Whether or not to keep the penny is a surprisingly heated debate. The penny should be removed from American currency for a variety or reasons, it costs too much money to make, it wastes money, and plenty of other countries have gotten rid of it and they're fine.
1. The Republican effort to write a once-in-a-generation bill to cut taxes appears to be the last, best hope for the fractured party to find some common ground. But it’s also “bit like having a baby to save a failing marriage,” our reporters have concluded. Tensions abound, including over sharp reductions in how much Americans may save in 401(k) accounts.
The 1st Amendment You are talking about the government... BOOM!! You're in jail.
All I remember on March 25th, 2011 is that my family received a phone call that sent my sister and I into a state of turmoil and denial. We were informed that both our aunt and uncle were murdered the day before by their neighbor. In the mid 1990s, this neighbor was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This neighbor lived alone in a home where he possessed 10 firearms. After hearing this news I had mixed feelings of frustration and betrayal.
Should America implement a flat tax? According to Steve Forbes “For many years, people have said, ‘Make the rich pay more,’ and many politicians have said, ‘The rich people need to pay their fair share,’” (Forbes) but what do we think is really fair?
For the last 70 years, the majority of African-Americans voters have been more democrats than ever. "The African-American population is about 44.5million. Only 16.1 million voted in 2008", but “95% chose the democratic party”. More than one are unworthy because African-Americans turn their back to the Republicans, those who fought for them in the past. To change this and increase African Americans votes republican should change and/or make some of their policies more flexible that is it right now.
The American dream at one point was what drew people to American; the right to life, liberty, and the happiness. The American dream is the hope to acquire currency, large homes, raise a middle-class family, and pursue what brings people joy in life. But in the year 2016, the American dream becomes hard to believe in. The American dream may still exist, but it is not equally accessible to all Americans. This is true because the American dream is not affordable for everyone, it is not available to everyone from different degrees of education, and race and ethnicity creates large social barriers.
The Affordable Health Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”, is basically just Obama trying to make sure that the whole nation has insurance and if they do not have it by January 1, 2014, they will be penalized with a fine. To make insurance more affordable, many Americans are able to qualify for a subsidy that lowers the cost depending on age and income. Also, “Obamacare” made it impossible for insurers’ to discriminate, or charge higher rates, for anyone who has pre-existing conditions or for a certain gender. Medicare will also be easier to obtain due to requirement of insurance. This law was passed in the U.S. on March 23, 2010 by Congress and President Barack Obama.
The Second Amendment protects the right of people to keep and bear arms. This amendment was a controversial among different people in the government. It was between letting the people keep their weapons or to not let the people keep their weapons. This amendment was important to the framers of the Constitution because it provided the country with a well-regulated militia. The Second Amendment states "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
College is one of the most important and life changing times in the life of an American. Leaving high school behind and venturing out to the adult world is an amazing experience that every individual should experience. However, young adults from every corner of the country leave college with crippling debt or do not go to their preferred college of choice. College education should be cheaper as it will help families and students financially and give them the satisfaction with having the opportunity to go to their first choice for college.
Many people are strongly debating whether or not the rich should pay higher taxes. I believe it should be that the rich do pay higher taxes. When times in the economy are rough, the government needs to look consider at how they could bring in more money. Charging the wealthy higher taxes could be a strategy the government could use., and the wealthy people are the ones who could afford it.
