Violent crimes are being committed in the United States every day. The majority of them are being committed by teenagers from the ages 12 through 17 years old. Juveniles should be given a light sentence up to 4 years or a second chance depending on what they have committed. We need to realize that our children are our future, and they are throwing their lives away.
A juvenile offender may not have a clear understanding of the crime they have committed. A teen’s brain is not fully developed and their sense of right and wrong is much different than an adult’s. The fact of the matter is that it is not always the teenager’s fault for the poor choices and actions; they are merely a victim of their environment of their parents. Trialing these teen’s as adults unjust and unfair, there other alternatives that our society can turn to, to help our community a better place to live. Growing up in America today can be a very traumatic experience facing many pressures and trails. Juvenile offenders should not be trialed as adults because they will suffer physically and will have psychological damage while incarcerated with adults. Murderers, Rapist and other criminals are being released from jail every day after serving only a short and lenient sentence, these murders and rapist are adults and these juveniles are thirteen years old and spend twenty-five years in jail.
