Police brutality has been rising significantly throughout The United States of America, everyday there is many individuals that become a victim of police brutality.Throughout the years there has been many cases of police brutality shown by mass media. Police brutality is the misconduct of police that use excessive force or verbal assault during law enforcement activities with the public. Many police officers have been shown using excessive force against citizens in a unlawful matter and sometimes end up using deadly force which kills the victim. Some police often stop civilians by using racial profiling, racial profiling is when law enforcement target people based on color and think they commit crime without evidence of criminal activity. According to Evan Horowitz “ The principal job of any police force is to keep communities safe. If police genuinely believe that the greatest threats come from one particular racial or ethnic group, they might heighten their scrutiny of that group” (1 p6). However this viewpoint is incorrect because racial profiling should not be used under any circumstances. People should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. This should be true of race as well. A person's skin color should never dictate an officer's suspicions, unless warranted by extenuating circumstances. officers pulling over minorities is an abuse of their civil liberties, is insulting, and should be punishable by termination of employment. An officer's job is to protect and serve, not just protect and serve white people. To do otherwise is to assume guilt until proven innocent. According to Faye V. Harison “Racial profiling is one form of discrimination and rights violation that remains pervasive in law enforcement and as a tactic of everyday social control.
