Many may say cops are just doing their job, stopping those they believe have committed a crime. Many may say cops are going based off of facts and statistics. Or many, like me, may say cops are simply just racial profiling. Racial profiling is assuming someone has committed a crime based on their race or ethnicity. In our country, police intend to use racial profiling in hopes to see change in crime rates. Yet there really is no change, except for the addition of more hatred. Looking at statistics, we can clearly see that blacks do in fact carry out more unlawful actions than any other race. Considering that they make up only 13% of the population and whites make up 63%, blacks “commit violent crimes at 7 to 10 times the rate that whites do.” Looking at these facts, it's obvious why police would target people of color more than then they would of anyone else. This still should not be the reason for police to cruelly attack blacks or Hispanics. Those statistics have no proof that every single African American is a criminal. If police officers focus more on suspicious behavior rather than focusing on race that will lead to more arrests, plus it will include a valid reason for the arrest. Since some reasons are unbelievably foolish like stopping someone “for wearing clothes commonly used in a crime” (Herbert). These actions of profiling by police may lead to unnecessary violet cases, many include deaths and major injuries. A well known case about Michael Brown was certainly based off of racism and lead to death of an unarmed African American. Michael Brown isn’t the only one, Oscar Grant was murdered in the hands of a white police officer. There was no reason
