Does racial profiling still exists? Are you aware of racial profiling around you? Do you believe racial profiling is right? In July 2009, Henry Louis Gates Jr., an African American professor at Harvard, was arrested at his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, after he forced open the jammed front door. Police officers patrolling the area assumed he was breaking into the residence and arrested him.(Racial Profiling) Even though we are a very open society, many people are still profiled just because of their race at many shopping centers, airport, by police and in many other situation and many other people. Some people believe racial profiling does not exist anymore. They are wrong because racial profiling has become more common since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, especially toward Arabs and Muslims. (Racial Profiling) 9/11 was a day in history that nobody could forget but even with this we should not use racial profiling as a way of security. There are many other techniques police and airports could be using other than racial profiling. With the technology we have now there is no need for racial profiling to be used. Racial profiling can have very extreme effects. The American Psychological Association found that the effects of racial profiling caused post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychological disorders, which can lead to drug abuse, depression, and even suicide. (Racial Profiling) The effects remind me of the effects of bullying. Some may not understand until it happens to them. Racial profiling can cause feelings of humiliation and worthlessness and lead to self-esteem problems. (Racial Profiling) Something that may not seem as a big deal to some may be it for others.
