Arguments Against Prisoner Abuse

A study shows that 10% of inmates are victims of sexual abuse while incarcerated, half are committed by their guard. Prisoner abuse is justifiable because the prisoners are already getting punished for what they did. Also because it is not morally right to take advantage of your power or authority. Finally because the abuse could affect the prisoner mentally and/or physically. Therefore I am strongly against prisoner abuse. Prisoner abuse is not okay because, for one, these prisoners are already getting punished for the crime they committed. Even though the guards might want to express to the prisoners that what they did was wrong, they shouldn’t because they are in prison for that reason and are already paying for whatever they did. Prison guards should be there for what they are meant for, to guard the prison and nothing more. Furthermore, yes the prisoners have done bad in the past and so forth, but the guards should go by the saying “treat people the way you would want to be treated”. I am mostly sure that if it was the other way around that those guards would most definitely not want not want to be treated that way. Finally if the guards didn’t abuse their power, then maybe the prisoners wouldn’t abuse the guards(for the most part). It could affect the prisoner mentally because when they get out of prison it could make them not be able to trust authorities or even just people in general. It could also affect them physically from the guards(or whoever) could leave really bad scarring or leave them/their body in bad conditions(injured back, neck, legs,arms, etc). This has been my third and final reason against prisoner abuse.
To sum it all up prisoner abuse is not okay because the prisoners are already getting punished. Also it is not morally right to take advantage of your power and authority, and lastly because the abuse could affect the prisoners mentally and physically. If all of these reasons were to be taken into consideration, then maybe the prisoners wouldn’t mistreat the guards. All in all, prisoner abuse is not
