The Ghost of the Lagoon “I shall slay Tupa and win the king’s reward!”, said Mako. The story “The Ghost of the Lagoon” by Armstrong Sperry is about a boy named Mako who’s village is being attacked by a shark for many years. While sitting around a fire Mako’s grandfather told him a story about Tupa and his father. Tupa capsized the boat his dad was on and Mako sought revenge. Mako was brave, determined and loyal to his family. One quality of Mako is that he is brave. When his grandfather told about how his father died, Mako said that “I shall slay Tupa and This shows that he is brave because he was going after a shark who had killed many people and is very dangerous. When Tupa had attacked Afa, Mako hit Tupa in the eye weakening him and saving Afa. This shows that Mako is brave because he attacked Tupa, a deadly shark. When Mako was going back home from getting bananas, he passed by a reef he named Tupa. He called out to the coral” Ho, Tupa! It’s too late tonight to teach you your lesson. But I’ll come tomorrow,”. This shows that Mako is brave because he was confident that he could beat Tupa. Also when Tupa was attacking Mako and Afa, Mako threw his spear and it hit Tupa’s other eye. When Mako went to sleep, he swore to himself that he would find out if a ghost(Tupa) could be killed by a spear.
