This is a place where one can go to experience shows, art, food, and see livestock from all around the country. Most people however, go to this fair simply to have fun. On my visit to the Iowa State Fair in the previous summer, tasting all of the different foods, quality of the rides and the positive attitude from the carnival workers highly encourages me to come back year after year.

Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population. The projects leadership and funding came from the SNCC and COFO, along with hundreds of white college students in the north. In 1963, the SNCC organized a mock vote for blacks, which gave them a chance to prove they were capable of understanding politics. The civil rights activists from both organizations and the white volunteers from the north faced many challenges during the campaign.

I would like to start off this essay off by saying I am very honored to be invited to join the National Honor Society. Ever since I was young I loved helping people. It was events like this that really shaped who I am as a person.
Art Spiegelman was born on February 15th, 1948 in Stockholm, Sweden. Both his parents were Polish Jews - Władysław (1906–1982) and Andzia (1912–1968) and were both born under Hebrew names; Zeev (William when he immigrated to the United States) and Hannah (Anna when she immigrated to the US) respectively. “Vladek” and “Anja” were used in Maus due to the notion that Art thought they’re easier to announce to Americans. His parents also had another son, before Art was born known as Rysio. Rysio was sent to stay with his aunt during the Holocaust and she poisoned four family members, including herself and Rysio so they would not be taken to the extermination camps.
My all time favorite artist is Frida Kahlo. Not only was she an amazing artist but she was an intricate and articulate woman. She went through many hardships in her life and she expressed her emotion through her wonderfully surreal paintings. Like many successful artists, Frida had many skeletons in her closet and she wasn’t perfect in anyway.

Introduction Visual and performing arts tend to act as separate entities within the field of education; considerably isolated from the majority of academia, these sectors are often considered to be secondary or elective options after completing primary education. The arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education, however, when an institute begins a budgeting process, the arts are rarely considered a top priority. For example, during periods of recession many public schools within the United Stated were forced to cut visual, performing and musical arts programs, despite studies that proved the exposure to the arts to be beneficial for students both academically and in extracurricular activities.
