Artemis (or in roman Diana)was the Goddess of moon and hunt. She was born before her brother Apollo on the island of Ortygia, and as soon as she was born she helped her mother cross over Delos to give birth to Apollo(being also the goddess of childbirth).Artemis was a competitive type such as in the story of Orion she would challenge him to archery contest and races. She would always love to hunt in the forest and plains with her bow and silver arrows. Artemis 's aim was perfect, so perfect it challenged even her brother. Artemis loved her siblings, but she also loved her friend Orion before her brother Apollon tricked her into killing him. Apollo and Artemis have been known to stir up some trouble together, like the time when they both killed a human woman 's children when she began to brag about having more children the Leto and Artemis making her think she is better than a goddess, which is when the two siblings put it upon themselves to find any of their children and kill them. It showed both sides of Artemis the hunter side and the protector side, this implies a lot to animals.
The reason that Artemis is the goddess of childbirth is because she assisted her mother, Leto, with the birth of her twin brother, Apollo. Some literature also suggests that she is also the goddess of the various cycles of nature: birth, life, death, and rebirth. Additionally, she is the protector of the girl child. The myth of Orion and Artemis is one of the most famous and prestigious myths. Orion was a lover of men but became very good friends with the beautiful goddess Artemis. They talked and told each other their secrets. Eventually, they fell asleep next to each other. Since Artemis was to remain a virgin and untouched by man, when her brother Apollo came upon them sleeping he angrily assumed that Artemis ' virginity had been compromised by Orion. However, his anger abated and he soon became fast friends with the handsome Orion. Apollo also loved men, but he also loved women and he was ashamed of his love for other men. Orion and Apollo ended up having sexual relations. Later when Orion mentioned that he looked forward to the return of Artemis, Apollo accused him of sleeping with Artemis and taking her virginity. Orion objected and stated that he was a lover of men as was Apollo. This statement angered Apollo because he wanted everyone to believe he only loved women. Also, he was jealous of Orion 's obvious friendly affection toward Artemis. Therefore, Apollo tricked Artemis into killing Orion convincing her that Orion was the evil Candaan who had raped Opus....one of Artemis ' priestesses. Artemis used her skills with a bow and arrow to kill Orion from a distance...still thinking he
