The Renaissance movement was the bridge because it was the beginning of individual thought, and appreciation of literature and the arts. People began to think for themselves, people started to come up with many great ideas, rebirth, and cultural expansion. In this time period with your enemies your suppose to be tough and with others be cool, and everyone needed to be good at writing, latin and greek, poetry, speaking and history. The renaissance period was a revival of beliefs, cultures, styles, techniques, etc. According to Gene Brucker, the renaissance placed human beings and art to be at the core of true value. Born on April 15th, 1452 in Vinci, Italy, his beliefs inspired and influenced the Catholic Church in many ways. Out of all of his paintings, he was most commonly known for the Mona Lisa and the Last supper. His paintings have affected countless artists. He is one of the most common artists of the Italian renaissance.
This essay compares the characteristics of Renaissance society and contemporary society. Similarities and differences are noted before discussing issues connecting the two periods. The objective is to obtain a better understanding of how societal elements in each era influence society changes and progress. This research is important because society is at the heart of changes and progress in civilizations. The Early Renaissance was being defined as striving towards a more “humanistic” viewpoint of the world. However, Europe was still having a power struggle with the religion and it was still being largely influenced by the Church. Despite this struggle, a lot of innovations were still able to shape this time period – people were able to actively form questions about the world and seek out the truth while Church was slowly losing grip on its power, not so much that it could be noticed but it was happening 1. While other parts of Europe took a distinct Catholic influence, the Northern Renaissance was clearly Christian. It started when the Northern Renaissance schools were founded on the goal of biblical scholarship through Christianity.
Secularism was a very major aspect of the Renaissance,as it allowed for people to explore other worldviews, instead of just the church. This idea of secularism lessened some of the church’s influence and control over what individuals thought, read, and wrote about. Secular art during the Renaissance focused more on a humanistic view, especially as the artwork became less about religion and more about capturing realistic qualities. In addition, secular art caused more people to want their portraits done as it symbolized higher social class. Not only did secular art affect its viewers but the artists as well, because artists began signing their work, and it became a well respected occupation.
In the Baroque era patronage is the most common way for an artists to get work. Patronage is the act of someone with a great deal of wealth giving their financial support to an artist to commission them to make a painting, a sculpture, a play or a piece of music. Since the Patrons hire the artists to not just make them beautiful art, but make them something that symbolizes their status and wealth, certain themes arise in these works of art. These are ones of ornamentation, grandeur, theatrical elements, and the notion that there is action happening beyond the frame. Artists like Bernini and Rembrandt are prime examples of how patronage affects their art, whilst still being part of the baroque era.
Michelangelo had a gigantic influence on the renaissance. He was a master at both painting and sculpting, he also was an architect, engineer, and poet. During his day he was unbeatable in his painting and sculpting skills. He had many artist study under him and help him with painting the Sistine Chapel in Vatican, but none were on par with him.
The Renaissance era was noted to be an era of discoveries, wealth and great fortune. Most of Italy’s cities became wealthy through trade accessed through waterways around the country. The wealth of these merchants clearly influenced as well as supported new artist, writers, and philosophers. Among these wealthy merchant families was the Medici Family, whose wealth was in banking.
