“Ashes” Common Assessment Ashleigh is now a criminal. She hasn’t seen her father in over a year after he divorced her mom. When Ashleigh is told that he needs $200 to pay off some shady alleyway businessman, She jumps at the chance. When they arrive at her mother’s house to take some of her money Ashleigh is starting to have second thoughts about the whole idea, but after a few moments consideration she remains on track to aid her father in the escapade. The reasons she stole the money are because she likes her dad more than her mom, she is compassionate to her dad's situation, and she is confident that her mother won’t notice the missing money.

Ashleigh asks if there is anything she can do to help her father when he says he owes someone money “You owe them two hundred dollars?”...”Give or take”...”Can I help?” (Pfeffer 3). If she had turned him down she wouldn’t have shown compassion to her dad. Ashleigh shows compassion to her dad when she said “I just thought you could borrow the money. Just for a day or two...mother would never know the difference” (Pfeffer 4). After she said that they finished their dinner, went to get her books, then went to take the money from the teapot. When they go to actually steal the money Ashleigh’s dad tells her that “I don’t want her to see me waiting… take the money and come right down… she’ll never know the difference”(Pfeffer 4). she had offered to help her dad with his financial problem so she had him drive her to her mom’s apartment to take some spare money her mom had lying
