Artists have their own style, and every piece an artist creates has a meaning behind it. By just looking at a piece of art a person can tell what an artist was feeling when they where creating that specific piece of art. A person can tell the artist feelings by simply looking at the type of colors being used, the lighting that the piece of art has and the shapes the artist used. In Edward Hopper's Nighthawk, Diana Argbus' Woman at Counter Smoking and Gregory Crewdson's Brief Encounters photographs, a person can tell that all of these art pieces have some similarities, as well as some differences and there is also something unique about each individual piece.

One of the similarities that all three-art pieces have is that when a person looks at them they might get a sense of Isolation. If you look at the piece Nighthawks you might see four people in a coffee shop, but when you take a closer look you might see that each individual is in their own little world. While in the Woman at the Counter Smoking she is all by her self-looking straight and it looks like she has a lot going on in her mind. In the piece Brief encounters, all a person can see is a lonely car in the middle of the street with the light on, a man outside a movie theater and a women at a restaurant. The items in this piece of art look lonely and they are all isolated from each other. Another similarity that these pieces have in common are that the artist tent to use darker colors in the items that are not the main focus and they use a lighter color on the items that are meant to have the
