On August 14th and August 20th Kaepernick goes unnoticed while sitting during the anthem, he sat during the first two games. Kaepernick told the media after the game he sat because of the oppression of people of color and ongoing issues with police brutality. In my opinion I believe that Athletes should be able to stand up for what they believe in instead of doing what other people want them to do. Colin Kaepernick wanted to raise awareness to this issue that was being ignored. One reason why athletes do what they do is because of religion. For example In 1967, professional boxer Muhammad Ali took a stand against the Vietnam war. He refused to fight in the war. because of this he was sentenced to five years in prison, fined $10,000 and banned from boxing for three years. Many people thought it was bad and he should have fought in the war. This shows that Muhammad Ali fought for what he believed in and not what people wanted him to do. …show more content…
