When Japan refused to surrender unconditionally the U.S. decided to nuke them, this was very controversial but looking back the U.S. made the right decision. Although it was seen as immoral, the U.S. made the right decision because if the U.S. didn’t nuke Japan, Russia would of taken over Asia and quite possibly Europe, it was the quickest way to end the war and the one that cost the least American lives, and nukes are weapons of war and Japan was the enemy. If the U.S. didn’t drop the atomic bomb Russia would of taken over Asia and quite possibly Europe. By dropping the atomic bomb it ended the war and saved Americans lives. In document J the estimated total casualty of Japanese people was estimated to be 199,000 people that is to the estimated 1 million American casualties if we kept fighting until the Japanese surrendered. Also, in document I it says “His (Truman’s) advisors had warned him to expect massive casualties if the United States invaded Japan.” Truman didn’t do it out of revenge he did it out of protection for American lives. In document A it says “It was their (committee of top men) recommendation that the bomb be used against the enemy as soon as it could be done.” This shows that not just Truman thought it would save American lives and end the war quickier. In document H, which is a WWII soldiers opinion, it says “only a few weeks before Hiroshima, 123,000 Japanese and Americans killed each other. War is immoral. In document I it says “Truman believed it was his duty as president to use every weapon available to save American lives.” In document A it says “I regard the bomb as a military weapon and never doubted it should be used.” Document A also has a committee of the top ten men agreeing that the atomic bomb should be used as a weapon of war.
