In life, men must choose to do God’s will or to follow their own will, which ultimately ends in failure. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch, the father of Jem and Scout, is an excellent example of a man that lives his life for Christ. People can not only see Christ when he is defending Tom Robinson, but also when he is doing everyday things such as walking down the street and talking to the people of Maycomb. Mr. Finch sees the good in everyone and stands on the side of justice, no matter your race, sex, or wealth. Being a man of God, Atticus possesses many important characteristics including wisdom, courage, and faith. Atticus Finch is an incredible example of a wise man. In the court and in his everyday life, he is constantly looking at the big picture in order to fully understand the problems at hand. As a father, grasping onto wise thoughts enables him to better teach his children in godly ways. One of his many wise sayings was, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-…-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (Page 30). Atticus is ultimately saying do not judge someone for the way they do things. This applied both at home and in the court. In order for Mr. Finch to appear as wise he did not even need to say a word.
