Awhile back, I read the novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee. This infamous book is based during the brutal era between the 1950’s and 60’s when segregation and hatred towards African Americans was a norm in the United States. Atticus Finch, the father character and a lawyer in the novel, has inspired me to embody leadership. His main purpose in the book was to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a young white woman for whom he worked for. Atticus, put his life and his family at risk by agreeing to defend Tom in court. In a town like Maycomb, Alabama, where the white community held strong prejudice beliefs, Atticus stood out and committed to his morals of racial equality. He shows leadership qualities
