Atticus Finch Traits

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee there are many interesting characters, but to me Atticus Finch is the most interesting character. Atticus has many traits that everyone should aspire to have. He is respectful,humble and has a lot of dignity. The story would not be the same without Atticus. He is what makes the story interesting and fun to read. Throughout the story you learn more about Atticus and what kind of person he is. Atticus’ wife died two years after Scout was born of a sudden heart attack, this leaves Atticus with having no wife and two children to take care of. Atticus is a lawyer this is told on page five when scout says “ When my father was admitted to the bar, he returned to Maycomb and began his practice” (Lee 5).This sentence shows that Atticus moved to Maycomb to start practicing law. His first two clients ended up being convicted and hung for their actions. The two clients were hung not because of Atticus but for their own resistance. One of Atticus's character traits is always being respectful to everyone around him. On page one hundred sixteen through one hundred seventeen Atticus respects his kids by not keeping anything from them. For example Atticus says to Uncle Jack “Jack! When a child ask you something, answer him, for goodness’ sake. But don't make a production of it” (Lee 116).When he says this it shows that Atticus respects his kids enough to not lie to them or try to hide the problems in life.
