Children look up to and follow their parents footsteps throughout their lifetime. This is why parents have such an huge impact on their child's life. Atticus, a father that teaches his kids to be loyal and have respect is a great example of a parent that has a great influence on his children in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Atticus, a hard working father has two children named Jem and Scout. Atticus does everything he can to make sure that his children are loyal and respectful. He gives them a prime example of how they should act and treat others. Atticus is an magnificent example of taking advantage of being the best role model he can be to his two children.

Resembling Atticus’s parenting skills and what he does to make sure they are respectful and loyal; “This parenting style (authoritative) is defined by clear limits on the child’s behavior and the ability to reason and communicate openly with their child”(Martain & Hite). This proves that Atticus’s parenting style is authoritative. This is because he follows all of the skills on how an authoritative parent acts upon their children. On the other hand, even though children should have rules and restrictions once in a while they should be able to explore and be adventurous; “The idea was that kids should face, what to them seem like ‘really dangerous risks’ and then conquer them alone. That’s she said is what builds self confidence and courage”(Rosin). This states that when you don’t restricts your kids or let them explore can be a benefit to them. This is what Atticus does to his two children. They learn from their mistakes but they also learn from them and this will be an advantage to them in the future.
