Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
America was founded on multiple principles, one of them being that America is supposed to be a country where people can say what they want and believe what they want without being punished. Over the past couple years however, more and more people who are standing up for their beliefs, are being punished, specifically 17 NFL players who have decided not to stand during the national anthem. On August 11th-13th is the 26th Annual LakeFest Drag Boat Race in Texas in Marble Falls, this is in the Highland Lakes region known for its’ scenic natural beauty. The waterways are surrounded by rolling green hills, wildlife and flowers native to the region. The boat race is an extraordinary event to watch especially if you are into fast speeds, spectators can feel the engines vibration and hear the engines roar as they are racing at top speeds over 250 mph. The race begins at 9am but the gates open at 7am and the races usually conclude around 3pm. On Friday Aug.11th fans will be able to meet and greet the race boat drivers and see the race boats up close and personal take pictures and get autographs starting at 7pm.

If there was give an award for “Best Feel-Good Story,” Wonder by R.J. Palacio would win by a mile. A ten year-old boy with an abnormally shaped face has to learn how to deal with the world socially, with emotional twists and turns along the way. This fantastic novel transported me back to my fifth grade year, full of laughs (and surely a lot less homework). The overall message of the story was to choose kind, but it also had something much more meaningful hidden; do not take things for granted. August Pullman was born with “Mandibulofacial Dysostosis,” as it says in the book, and his fifth grade year is when he finally goes to an actual school.

Due to August’s appearance his social relationships are hindered and August must struggle to overcome social repression. Using techniques including symbolism, characterisation and narrative structure the author conveys August’s struggle to overcome the challenge of forming relationships despite his deformity. Palacio uses symbolism to convey August’s difficulties in forming relationships with his peers.
