Augustine was born on Sunday, November 13, 354 in, in a town of Thagaste. Thagaste now is Algeria. Augustine’s father, Paricuis, ruled over the destiny of the town, they lived on a farm and had many slaves. Growing up, Augustine was not the ideal child; he had uncontrollable temper and was known for lying, he didn't like to do his homework, and was a thief. Augustine was not to fond of his father, but loved his mother Monica. Patricius desired that Augustine would become a man of his culture, but other than that he didn't care for his sons bad actions. Ever since Augustine was a little boy he was always a troublemaker, from cheating while playing a game called "Nuts" to stealing from his own parents out of the kitchen. Augustine loved Romanian like his own father. Augustine was given an allowance every week. Augustine started to show talents so Romanian sent him to Carthage to study. Another huge influence on Augustine’s life was his mother. Unlike his father Augustine loved his mother. Augustine favored Monica because no matter what he did he could always talk to his mother without her being mad. Manichean is an adherent of dualistic religious system of manes. It is a combination of Gnostic Christianity, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and many other religions. While Augustine was studying in Carthage he started to speak of Mani, a Persian who suffered crucifixion and introduced a sacrament of bread and fruit. Mani proclaimed that he was an apostle of Christ who was never born and who never became man and never died. When Augustine started speaking about Mani that’s when he started to read about Manichean. He started to believe them because of how they speak “the truth.” Soon after, Augustine went through a hard time when his friends died.
