Problems of Evil:
There has been a great debate on the existence of God. Christian Theology describes God as omnibenevolent and omniscient thus making God morally perfect. The problems of evil refute this assumption of a perfect of God by stating that both can’t co-exist. This paper will dive into the main problems of evil and how they disprove the idea of god. In addition, it will show how the philosopher Augustine created the theodicy for the existence of both Evil and God and if he solved the problem for the existence of evil.
The problem of evil attempts to discredit the existence of God. God is described as all power, all- knowing and entirely good. In addition, it was believed that God was omnibenevolent and omniscient so that the co-existence of both God and evil is impossible. Although, the problem with evil provides a theory that God does not exist. As omniscient, God can eliminate evil and would have the desire to eliminate it. With the existence of evil in the world, it proves that God is not morally perfect and therefore must not exit. These religious believers state that God is all powerful and morally perfect but we live in a world full of evil and if God knows where evil exist and can eliminate it, then there would be no evil. God would have created humanity to not have the possession of evil and an all loving god would not want to punish those who do possess this evil. In addition, Augustine blames evils on a human’s free will but evils can also exist in other situations like disease or natural disasters. If God was as powerful and kind as they claim he is, the world would not be troubled by wars, diseases and other evil disasters.
