The play, A Streetcar Named Desire, directly reflects the 1940s time period. Mostly in regards to the male dominated society. Throughout the entire play Stanley shown to be authority figure who holds most of the power. He is the one in control in most situations. It is discovered that he physically hits his wife, Stella, to show his power over her. When Blanche comes to stay with them, she is enraged at what she witnesses. However Stella believes Blanche is making a big deal of what she considers to be small. Personally, I agree with Blanche on Stanley being a madman.
