Do you know how to fix a dent? The average American doesn't. If a person is looking to go into a career that is fun and very fruitful then, that person should become an auto body technician. Body techs repair cars that have been damaged by collision. Auto body techs get to work miracles on clients' beloved cars. An auto body technician is a vital part of the automotive industry. These skilled professionals interact with clients to repair, restore, or refinish vehicles. To begin, Auto body technicians usually have a busy schedule. They fix complex issues and meet multiple deadlines. There are multiple ways to become an auto body technician none of which require a college degree. It is preferred that employees have prior technical school experience but it is also not required. Most body shops will train their employees on the job for 2-4 years before letting them work on their own. ¨New workers typically begin their on-the-job training by helping an experienced repair technician with basic tasks. As they gain experience, they move on to more complex work. Some workers may become trained in as little as one year, but generally, workers may need three to four years of hands-on training to become fully qualified repair technicians¨(career explorer). The only thing really required to be an auto body technician is certification.to Auto body technicians must have a variety of certifications to be eligible to work in a collision center or body shop. ¨Such certifications include safety, social, professional, and workplace training certifications. Most new auto body technicians earn the certifications early in their careers and renew them through the years as they expire. The most important required certification is by NAISE; national institute for automotive service excellence¨(Bureau of Labor Statistics). Opening A small business is very financially risky and hard to do. To be your own boss a person needs to be willing to work day and night. They also need to be incredibly organized and motivated. To open your own collision repair shop owners need to be their own boss and human resources and payroll.¨To open a collision repair shop you need a good location and branding, these two factors are crucial to opening your own small business. Especially a collision repair shop, if customers can't find you they don't come knocking. It is important to be visible and intriguing with your branding¨(Nunn). Opening a business is risky because if one doesnt market or advertise right the business will fizzle out within 2 years. Only 33% of small businesses make it through the first year and 50% of that 33% get through the second year without going out of business. Without marketing the business in nothing, marketing for a new business should have the highest priority.
