With the shortage of Radiologists and with the expansion of radiology technology, the need for radiologist assistant has great increased in the past year. Radiologist Assistants are comparable to a physician’s assistant. Both of these jobs assist doctors in performing advance medicine. However, an important concept to understand about this profession, is that the individual starts out as a radiologic technologists. That means that part of the education to become a radiologist assistant could be accomplished at a different university. Just like the radiology technology program, perquisites and an application are required. Each program is different, but most programs have one application dead line a year in the spring semester. This is comparable to the radiologic technology application at Washburn University. The perquisites is where the different variations of the programs happen. Every program requires at least two years of work experience after passing the radiologic technology boards. Most programs will let you apply while the individual is still finishing up the two years of clinical experience. The different programs do have different perquisite courses required. For instance, the Ohio State University requires a student to have a pharmacology course before meeting the requirements of the application. Basically, the radiologist assistant program is achieving a master’s degree. The educational program for radiologist assistant lasts about two years, depending on program. The radiologist assistant program is comparable to the radiologic technologist licensure requirements and certifications. In order to receiver certification, an individual most pass a few tests and earn a few degrees. The individual must pass a radiologic technology board and a radiologist assistant board in order to receive certification.
