Each generation has their own way of using technology. They select the kind of technology that they are most comfortable with, and make buying decisions based on the information that they receive from that source. These technological sources can vary greatly depending on the person’s ability to understand and use new means of communication, what means of communication is most available and comfortable for the person to use, and what means of communication the person grew up with.
The 60+ generation grew up with AM radio, black and white television, billboards, newspapers, magazines, and mailings as the major sources for their purchasing information. Business matters need to be handled face-to-face. Name-brands have their respect.

For their buying considerations, they use TV, radio, magazines, Internet searches, social networks, blogs, email, and word of mouth advertising. They are very likely to “ask around” with friends and acquaintances about the reliability of products.
As a group, Baby Boomers have had to deal with the largest changes in technology during their lifetimes. They’ve had to learn to use the Internet, cell phones, computers, ever-changing TV systems, stereo configurations, and much more. They also use Amazon, eBay, Ticketmaster, iTunes, Amazon Music, and Netflix for purchases. The internet is used as a source to increase their education and understanding of technology and the world around them. Cell phones, satellite TV, Google, Xbox, Laptops, mp3 players, DVDs, DVRs, HDTV, the Internet, and digital photography are what the Millennials have grown up with. Because of this bombardment of technology, they expect products to be customizable to their needs and wants. And they want it now. Millennials are also very quick to share their pleasure or displeasure about products with everyone they can reach in person, by cell phone, and on the Internet. Even though they spend a lot of time on the Internet, they still watch TV – they just like to watch it on their schedule, not the broadcast schedules. And with DVRs and on-demand programming, they can do just that. They also spend a lot of time streaming shows and events on devices such as laptops, cell phones, or tablets. Technology needs to go everywhere they go, and the newer it is, the better. Advertising for this generation has to be clear and to the point.
