Meyer, a social scientist, that did a report on income that involved “paternity fathers”. He noticed that after a father’s income increased from paternity establishment after several years. He failed to realize that the child support collection policy was based off of fiscal considerations, leaving a major flaw in his report. Instead of helping with income, the child support collection policy made it harder for parents that had a child outside of marriage to make money. The report also fails to address the cost efficiency of child support collection and the diminishing returns for enforcement against absent parents with little to no income.
While feudalism and the class system of the European middle ages seemed to guarantee that families would remain in their social strata for eternity, the philosophers of the Renaissance challenged that status quo. They suggested that people could—and should—question authority. For instance, in Erasmus of Rotterdam’s The Education of a Christian Prince, he urged people to, “judge all things on their own merits as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’” Like many of his time who considered themselves humanists, Erasmus believed the study of the liberal arts could help people dramatically change their lives.
It’s amazing that in this era, any woman can buy and lease cars without always having their family members, spouses, and boyfriends buy one for them. It’s a major accomplishment that generations to come won’t understand, how women in the 40s to 80s couldn’t do because they were only allowed to be homemakers and stay at home

Paul Tough’s Whatever It Takes focuses on Geoffrey Canada’s program, “The Harlem Children’s Zone”, which aims to take students living in one of the lowest performing districts in New York City and keep them on track for graduation and eventually college. This book shows the various challenges that come with trying to change a system that has built to fail these students. One of the earliest lessons that Canada learns is that in order to make a major difference on these student’s lives, he needs to have a comprehensive approach, which would keep the students on a “conveyor belt” to college. Canada’s approach was different from previous attempts to close the achievement gap because instead of choosing to open his program to all students in New York City and only be able to accept a small percentage of the students that apply, Canada chose to focus on a specific zone in Harlem and commit to fully supporting all of the students that lived in the chosen zone.
Because of parents like Rose Mary, the idea of being trained to raise a child has become a topic of conversation. Bobbi Leder, an opinion editor, spoke her thoughts in her article, “Should People Be Required to Obtain A License Before Becoming Parents,” where she addresses what is required and expected out of parenthood. She advocates that “children deserve the best and if you’re not prepared to give (the most important job) your all, then leave it to those who are” (Leder 3). As an American society, it is natural to want children to have the best opportunity they can. To provide these opportunities, it is important to consider one question before having a child: are you ready to take on a huge responsibility?
Motherhood who needs it? Is it women, men, society or everyone in general who needs motherhood? In “Motherhood: who needs it?” Betsy Rollin argues that people are having children for all the wrong reasons. Instead of having them because they want to they have them because they feel that it is expected upon them as a woman.

The arrival of a new baby, especially the first always marks a new beginning for a mother. It comes with a lot of challenges more so if the mother is less knowledgeable about baby care. Take such as cleaning the baby for the first time, or feeding, it is not easy. The baby is still fragile and slippery and needs a special care. But if the mother is not ready for all these, or maybe, does not have any knowledge on what to do, the baby’s life might be endangered since the baby needs a special care which only the mother can give.
