The New York City skyline is shown in all its glory. Beautiful shots of the NYC bays, bridges, and skyscrapers are shown with an orchestral instrumental. Wide, powerful shots of buildings and towers show the true gargantuan scale of New York City. As the music builds to a finale, it suddenly cuts to a small apartment in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. The apartment is dark, not much room to show, and generally messy. Banging can be heard on the wall separating the main room from a little bedroom. The bedroom is dimly lit. Kennedy, a mid-twenties black woman, with exceptionally beautiful and large natural hair is on her bed on her hands and knees. She wakes up slowly, goes to make cereal, and watches cartoons for a bit. She takes a long hot shower, masturbates, and gets ready for the day. Hair tied in a head wrap, joggers on, the shirt she bought when she saw Chance perform at a small stage in NYC; she feels radiant today. She grabs her backpack and heads out into the world. Kennedy walks down the three flights of stairs to the street, hopping over people sleeping in the stairs, litter, one angry cat, and a couple bottles of alcohol. She walks to the nearest metro and descends into the crowded chaos of New York’s underbelly. A chaotic swell of orchestral music builds as people swirl around her in the subway. The chaotic music matches the speed and anxiety of the metro. The people in the metro frenzy and rage as people head in constant opposition of one another. Kennedy steps one foot on the ground floor, and a hush falls over the room. She takes one step forward and the crowd begins to separate from her path. To them, the bees of the city, the queen has arrived on their domain. The cannot help but move out of her way, fearing to bother her path or make her upset. In the center of the now parted crowd she finds a man hunched over in fear. She places a hand on his shoulder. Jules, a mid-twenties white man with an average physique and many tattoos, has obviously been overcome by the power of the mob of people. Kennedy helps him to his feet and walks him to the edge of the platform. Jules stands next to Kennedy and they talk lightly before Kennedy’s train arrives. As her train arrives, she steps onto it. Jules yells through the closing doors for her phone number but she wags a finger at him while
