I think “The United States annexes Hawaii in 1900” should be paired with imperialism. The meaning of imperialism is the policy that creates colonies in the weaker nations in order to make raw materials and have access to the new markets. The reason why I think The United States annexing Hawaii in 1900 is a part of imperialism is because once Americans was done settling in Hawaii they started to grow sugar and sold it to the Americans in the US; both the US and Hawaii in 1875 and Hawaii agreed to trading sugar and this allowed Hawaiian sugar to be shipped to the US without tariffs. The agreement between the US and Hawaii ended when Congress passed the “McKinley Tariff of 1890”.

The planters ' belief that a coup and annexation by the United States would remove the threat of a devastating tariff on their sugar also spurred them to action. In 1893 planters staged an uprising to overthrow the queen.
He introduced plans for the First Bank of the United States, established in 1791 which was designed to be the financial agent of the Treasury Department. The Bank served as a depository for public funds and assisted the Government in its financial transactions. The First Bank issued paper currency, used to pay taxes and debts owed to the Federal Government. Hamilton also introduced plans for a United States Mint. Though he wanted the Mint to be a structural part of the Treasury, he lost the battle to Jefferson and it was established in 1792 within the State Department.
Imperialism is a style of government that strives to expand its territory by either invading other nations or forcing them to submit to its control through political means. Countries engaged in imperialism to expand their territory and power. In America during the 1860s, industrialization was on the rise which increased the demand for raw materials to support the mass production of goods and the growing population of the Country. America sought to capture Hawaii because of the island's abundant resources. During this time, Hawaii was governed by a monarchy and was home to many American planters who benefited from the rich resources.
The Overthrow happened on January 17, 1893 against the Hawaiian Kingdom. With the support of U.S. Minister Stevens, American troops, and the Committee of Safety, Queen Liliuokalani was forced to surrender the throne to the U.S. The Overthrow was caused mainly byunjustified thanks to Minister Stevens, who brought American troops towards Iolani Palace. , Although their action was illegal, and they held the Queen at gunpoint which was immoral. Also, it was unwarranted sincedue to the queen wasbeing against war and bloodshed, andso she really had no choice but to give up her throne if she didn’t want the chaos of physical violence happening.

The Hawaiian Kingdom emerged from the arrival of Polynesians from other Pacific islands and later the unification of the islands by Kamehameha the Great. The Kingdom of Hawaii had a monarchy government system, where the rulers were of the same family and royal blood. King Kalakaua was the last king of Hawaii and Queen Lili’uokalani was the last ruler of Hawaii. While Queen Lili’uokalani was locked away from her throne, she sat under house-arrest in the hopes the next heir to the throne, Princess Ka’iulani would make a change for the better of Hawaii’s sovereignty. Into the present, the Hawaiian Monarchy has been overthrown, annexed and in control by the United States of America.
Imperialism was a controversial idea that a nation can extend its power outward through means of diplomatic or military force. This often results in a shift of power from one major force currently in control to another. The people of that nation under control conflict may also experience wars, rebellions, or cultural destruction. Looking at some of these events, we see some positives and negatives of imperialistic action taken by the United States, and how it affected the nations imperialized by the United States. For starters, let’s look at Hawaii’s annexation.
Annexation of Hawaii American’s saw a need to annex Hawaii because of their large amount of trade in sugarcane, the large amount of profit they were making from the sugarcane trade, for the land expansion, and for a military base. The earliest interests in Hawaii date back as far as the 1820’s! While none of this was set into motion until the 1860’s. There were some serious plans set in motion during the 1860’s or so, but the Civil War took over all plans and put hold on Hawaii until the 1890’s.
In the 1800s in Hawaii the crop that was the most important crop was sugar, but sugar was not harvested by machines, they were harvested by labors. The need of sugar to trade and sell was essential to Hawaii’s economy so some labors from China and Japan, others from Korea, Portugoal, or Philippines to fill the needs of workers due to the death of Hawaiians from diseases. All the labors had one goal in common which was to find a job to provide for their families. Plantation life in Hawaii in the 1800s was depressing. There were some differences in gender dealing with jobs, the working conditions were long and hard, and the living conditions were unsanitary.
The reason I came to Hawaii because we wanted to stop by to fix their ship and get food for going North America Whalers had a political impact on Hawaii, by governors ordered that people were cleared off the streets. This is the political impact because it affected the Hawaiian/Hawaii by the laws and they need to follow the new law so it will change their lives. I would feel bad because the whalers are getting whaled and it is a very dangerous job and the policies are clearing off the streets because it was dangerous to the fleet. Whalers had an economic impact on Hawaii, by Hawaii were that the oil from the whalers replace sandalwood used whale oil to catch whalers for whalers trade. This is an economic impact because the whalers
Standing still, eyes closed, the wind ruffling clothes and hair, carrying the distinct salty taste of the beautiful beaches so many call home. Once the eyes open, senses are nearly overloaded by the sight ahead, something many people see every day, but are still amazed by every single time. The warm sand beneath the feet leads, like a carpet, to the crystal water that shines like blue diamond, getting deeper and darker until, finally, eyes are lost at sea. Behind, the lush green fronds of palm trees stretch like columns over the native bushes and trees, framing their bright flowers and ripened fruits. Standing on the edge of any beach in Hawaii, it is easy to forget that this beautiful and serene state has a long and tragic history of exploitation
Understanding the culture of a nation, people, or group one must immerse themselves and experience the nation’s arts, beliefs, customs, practices, values, and social behaviors. By attending a cultural event, an individual is able to experience firsthand the diverse offerings of culture and artistic expression found in a community. At the moment I reside in upstate New York, Albany to be exact and there are no cultural events to attend; well none that are occurring the remainder of my Humanities course. I decided to choose a place I always wanted to visit, do some research online to learn a little about their culture. I chose Hawaii as the place to visit and after some probing, I become aware of how rich their culture is.
