Banning The Book 'All American Boys' By Jason Reynolds

Title (rough draft) In a world where all books tell the truth and are based on true stories, this world, SHOULD NEVER EVER EXIST! The Etiwanda school board is banning all fiction books because they claim that they are bad and do not teach us anything. I however, know what the school board is doing, is one hundred percent wrong. Fiction books are very important to human life and can sometimes teach us more about humanity than nonfiction books can. “All American Boys” by Jason Reynolds is a fiction book and teaches its readers about racism and police brutality. This book alone gives reason why we should never ban fiction books from students.
If the school board banned all fiction books from students, I would not have learned more about racism and how it greatly affects police brutality. “Because racism was alive and real as shit. It was everywhere and all mixed up in everything, and the only people who said it wasn’t… were white.” This quote from “All American Boys” is about racism. Learning about racism is important to humanity because if we treated others meanly and like animals, we would be inhuman. “All American Boys” shows police brutality by an officer named Paul. “There was blood pooling in my mouth… everything was sideways...my ears clogged, plugged by pressure. All I could make out was the washed-out grunts of the man leaning over me, hurting me. Telling me to stop fighting, even though I wasn’t fighting, and the piercing sound of sirens pulling up.” Rashad. (pg.23) His words describe what he was going through as he was accused of stealing chips by the store clerk and getting beat up by the officer. The book not only teaches you about the importance of racism and police brutality but, it discusses the goodness of freedom that humanity
