Scene 1 In the royal palace, Banquo paces and thinks about Macbeths coronation and the witches’ prophecies. The witches projected that Macbeth would be king, and that Banquo’s descendants would be kings. If the first prophecy was true, Banquo thinks, the second prophecy probably will. King Macbeth enters, he is followed by Lady Macbeth, his queen, their court. The king and queen ask Banquo to attend the feast they are hosting later. Banquo accepts their invitation and mentions he will be taking a ride on his horse this afternoon. Macbeth mentions that they should talk about Malcolm and Donalbain, who have fled from Scotland and may be plotting against him. Banquo departs, and the kings court is dismissed.
