I started the topic of Emigrate/Imigrate with the literal route of travel. The action of actually moving my physical self from one point to another. Beginning with My place of residence and to my school where I spend the majority of my time. I pondered over several mediums and methods and which would be the best suited to the situation until I came the conclusion that Line drawings would be the perfect one. This is because I had decided to draw my feet in as many obscure angles as possible which was a very similar take to that of Peter Root and Sue Pownall’s line drawings of objects. They range from her cat to low tide country bays and just about everything in between. However it was her attention to the detail in her drawing that made her stand out for me. One could only imagine that embarking on a drawing with such laudable detail would have been the foremost reason for the Meta of her work. Although her work covers every texture and every shadow in her pieces, Pownall was really just experimenting with her surrounding landscapes and devices. Perhaps it is this reason that Pownall chooses to travel as often as possible in search of new material to draw inspiration from. It was these landscapes and devices that reaffirmed my studying of her work as the subject matter of my line drawings was entirely my own: feet. Although I did not apply her extreme attention to detail to my own drawings, I certainly did admire her technique utilized for texture and shadow. Which is a technique I think defines my line drawings. The idea of dirt and grit on the my feet was evidence of their travel. The darks that are illustrated by attention to shadows reflect that. It is because of this that I would say the ideas taken from Pownall have not only been Conceptual ones but technical
