In “Baseball” by Lionel G. Garcia, the author describes how he and his friends created an entirely new game when they changed some of the basic rules of traditional baseball. He describes in great detail the rules and rotations of the game. Usually, the best part of traditional baseball is getting to hit. In Lionel and his friend’s version of baseball, the rules were changed, but hitting was still a vital and fun part of the game. However, the author continued to play without ever remembering to get to bat. He continued to play the game even though he did not ever get the opportunity to bat because he enjoyed the chase in the game and because he liked playing the game because it was extremely fun to play. The rest of the players were outfielders. In the game, when someone hit the ball, all the fielders would try to grab the ball and throw the runner out at first base. He states that when a batter hit the ball, they had to try to avoid getting tagged out by all the fielders and run to a base. However, if the fielders did not throw the ball to first base, the rules became more interesting. As Garcia says, “But the second, and more interesting option, allowed the fielder to take off running after the batter.” This meant that the fielders could run after the batter and the batter could go anywhere to avoid them catching up. Even though they could easily win and tag the batter out, they chased the batter because it was more fun. More specifically, the author wanted to be on a specific side of the chase. The author did not mind not being able to hit because the fun was in chasing the batter and he wanted to be a part of that. The author clearly enjoyed being a part of the chase and chasing the batter. From his viewpoint, chasing the batter was the best part of the game and something that everyone
