The poems “Casey at the Bat” and story “David and Goliath” spark interesting comparison’s about David and Casey. Casey and David were both rather great and heroic people. Even though in “David and Goliath” all of the men thought David would get killed, in the end, they were all pretty much in awe of David. In “Casey at the Bat” all of the fans thought Casey was great at first but at the end he wasn’t so great. From both perspectives David and Casey in the end were considered heroes at some time in both of their stories. Also, both David and Casey were sure of themselves. They both new the risks in what they were about to do but they were still sure that they could do it. What did he have to be unsure about? Both of the characters were sure of themselves yes, but it also had to take a lot of bravery to do what they were going to do. David stepped up to a nine foot tall man in armor with a giant sword about as long as himself armed only with a sling and a few pebbles. Still he was unafraid because he knew had God on his side and that gave him the bravery he needed to stand up to Goliath. Casey in “Casey at the Bat” knew the risks in what he was about to do. He could win or lose the game depending on what kind of ball he hit. He still stepped up to the plate because he knew he was a good player. He knew he had thousands of fans in the bleachers behind him and he knew (or thought at least) that he was going to hit a very good ball. Even though Casey and David were alike in many ways they were also very different. For example, Casey was proud. He knew he was the best player and boasted about in little ways that indicated he was selfish and proud.For his first strike he said “that ain't my style” which kind of tells you that he’ll hit the ball if you throw it to him right which is incredibly annoying.
