Dylan finds this close bond to be very strange, and he also thinks it is too close of a bond. The bond is not the type of bond a mother and son should have, but rather a mother and father. In Psychology Sigmund Freud would look at Norman as having the Oedipus complex. The Oedipus complex is a personality that came from a Greek legend about King Thebes. King Thebes killed his father and marries his mother. The Oedipus complex is described as a boy who gains sexual feeling for his mother as that his father would have. The boy ends up envying his father, he begins to identify with his father in order to gain the same love and affection that is given off by his mother.
