Domestic violence is the intended act of hurting or dominating a domestic partner. Largely, men direct domestic violence at women. According to Davenport (2012), men directed 85 percent of all domestic violence instances at women. Consequently, in 2008, either their significant other or husband killed more than 55 percent of all female murder victims. It is a challenge for police departments to prevent domestic violence due to Battered Wife Syndrome. Battered Wife Syndrome is a theory that abused spouses decide against leaving their partners out of fear of further violence, finding themselves as the cause, or their spouse will eventually cease the abuse.
