Th e Battle of Chancellorsville is major battle American Civil War, The battle was how General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, was able to defeat a bigger Union Army lead by General Joseph Hooker. The victory General Lee obtained is determine as perfect battle based on various decision taken that didn’t follow military concept. General Hooker was a career US military officer of the Union Army of the Potomac during the Civil War (1861-65). (Joseph Hooker - American Civil War). (P54) General Hooker’s experience in battle was during Second Seminole War, Mexican American War, Western Theater and ended Civil War as Department head in Ohio. General Hooker assumed command of the Army of the Potomac in 1863. General Hooker replaced General Ambrose as the Commander of the Army of the Potomac. The replacement came after the Union was defeated at Battle of Fredericksburg. Battle of Fredericksburg considered the most involvement of soldiers in any battle during the Civil War. Lee army. General Hooker was confident that his army would destroy General Lee army. Gen Hooker failed to realize the prior to his arrival General Lee army was dug in deeply on hill near Frederiksberg Virginia. General Hooker was going to march on General Lee army and have them think his forces were coming from downstream possessing a threat but in reality, they were conducting a convert move from the North. That plan would place Union army on the rear of Confederate Army. The Union Army attack the Confederate Army supply routes making it difficult for them. General Hooker designed a plan to attack General Lee forces and have them retreat. The Union plan was sneak up on the opposite side of where is unite was engaging were engaging the Confederate Army. The Union was hoping that engagement would keep the leadership of Confederate focus on one location. Gen Hook felt his plan was perfect. General Stoneman moved north sealing the west. There was no rush from General Stoneman push forward because he didn’t want to tire his troops.
